Class Descriptions for the Alexandra Dance Studio Fall 2010 Schedule

Multi-Level: ages 12 and up
For students of all skill levels, from beginners up to professionals. Optional level increases will be offered to those who are up to the challenge.

Bellydance for Moms and Kids Under 5
This class is specifically designed for postpartum mother, and mothers with small children. Kids may take part in class or play in a designated part of the studio. The class will teach basic bellydance technique, with the goal of rebuilding the core muscles that may have relaxed during pregnancy.

Bellydance for Moms and Girls: girls ages 5-12, with an accompanying adult
A light-hearted introduction to folkloric bellydance for a young girl and her mom (or aunt, older sister, neighbor, adult friend, etc!). Moms can share dance class with their girls, learning about this Middle Eastern folkdance.

Teen Bellydance: ages 10-18
A Level 1 class specifically designed for teens. No dance experience is required.

Level 1: ages 12 and up
All students may begin here. Level 1 classes include basic technique, posture, alignment, muscle contractions, and foot patterns. Perfect for beginners and those who want a fun, freeing movement class.

Level 1.5 Finger Cymbals: ages 12 and up
This class introduces the use of finger cymbals in bellydance slowly, starting with the musical rhythms, and gradually breaking down many finger cymbal patterns. A basic working knowledge of bellydance is helpful. No musical training is required.

Level 1.5 Choreography: ages 12 and up
A slow, gentle approach to learning choreography with bellydance movement vocabulary. A basic working knowledge of bellydance is recommended.

Level 2 Boot Camp: ages 12 and up
This is for the motivated student, who wants to push herself to achieve more in bellydance. This class includes stamina training, technique repetitions, layered movements, and complex foot patterns. Prerequisite: A Level 1 Certification in the Suhaila Salimpour Format, or at least 6 months training with Alexandra.

Level 2 Choreography: ages 12 and up
A Choreography class companion to the Boot Camp class. Same prerequisites. Choreography may include the use of props such as veil, cymbals, cane, and so on.

Dance Company Rehearsal: By audition only.
